Survey Crew Chief Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join a growing construction survey team and support multiple new projects in the Denver area. You will lead small field crews performing construction staking and related survey work, using modern tools and software to deliver accurate and timely results. The position provides exposure to a wide variety of projects, ongoing team growth, and the use of a company truck for field work. Responsibilities Lead a survey crew of one or two team members to perform construction staking on active job sites around the Denver metro area. Plan and execute daily field survey activities to support multiple construction projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications. Perform construction staking for various project types, including layout of structures, utilities, and site features in accordance with engineering plans. Use Trimble survey equipment to collect, verify, and document field data for construction and design purposes. Interpret construction plans, civil drawings, and survey documents to determine staking requirements and establish appropriate control points. Coordinate with project teams to clarify staking needs, resolve discrepancies, and communicate progress or issues encountered in the field. Maintain accurate field notes, records, and digital files to support project documentation and quality control. Ensure proper care, calibration, and safe operation of survey instruments, tools, and vehicles assigned to the crew. Support the integration of survey data with office software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D by providing clear, well-organized information. Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture within a growing survey group that is involved in both prime survey work and partner projects. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of construction staking survey experience in a Survey Crew Chief or similar field leadership role. Strong hands-on experience with construction staking methods and best practices on active construction sites. Proficiency with Trimble survey equipment and related field data collection workflows. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, civil plans, and survey documents. Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR). Ability to lead and direct a small field crew, organize daily tasks, and manage time effectively. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality survey work. Effective communication skills for coordinating with project teams and field personnel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience with AutoCAD is a plus. Previous experience with Civil 3D is a plus. Experience working on a variety of construction and infrastructure projects. Ability to adapt to a growing team environment and support multiple concurrent projects. Interest in contributing to a survey group that partners with larger firms while also winning and delivering its own survey work. Work Environment This is a field-focused position based in the Denver metro area, with most work performed on active construction sites while leading a crew of one or two team members. You will regularly use Trimble survey equipment and support workflows that integrate with AutoCAD and Civil 3D in the office. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and around ongoing construction activities, requiring a strong focus on safety and situational awareness. A company truck is provided for travel to and from project sites. The survey team has grown steadily over the past several years and supports a diverse mix of projects, including work performed as a partner with larger firms and projects won directly by the survey group. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Centennial, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
