Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and skilled Survey Party Chief to join our team for projects in multiple service areas. In this role, you will lead and manage a survey field crew while working on a variety of design, mapping, construction, and field survey projects. The Survey Party Chief is responsible for ensuring accurate data collection, efficient field operations, clear documentation, and adherence to project specifications. This position requires strong field leadership, technical survey knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work in outdoor environments across varying site conditions. Key Responsibilities Supervise and direct field survey crews to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and safely. Operate and oversee the use of Total Stations, GPS, and other survey equipment. Maintain clear and accurate documentation throughout all phases of survey work. Apply advanced knowledge of survey methods, procedures, and instruments to guide field operations. Interpret construction plans, project specifications, and field notes to execute survey work correctly. Perform mathematical calculations, including algebra and trigonometry, to support survey tasks. Monitor project schedules and field progress to support timely completion of work. Communicate effectively with project managers, team members, and other field staff. Adapt to changing field conditions, weather, rough terrain, and outdoor work environments. Travel to project sites within the assigned service area and surrounding locations as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief or in a similar survey field leadership role. Must be located within commuting distance of one of the posted job locations or surrounding service areas. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Proven experience leading survey field crews. Experience operating Total Stations, GPS, and related survey equipment. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey documents. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and field decision-making ability. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions. Willingness to travel, including overnight and out-of-state travel, when needed. Willingness to work weekends when project schedules require it.
