Job Description

My client, a well-established consulting firm with over 60 years of experience providing engineering, planning, and design services, is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join their Chicago office. This is an excellent opportunity for a survey professional who enjoys hands-on field work while supporting projects with occasional in-office responsibilities. Key ResponsibilitiesLead one-person survey crews and supervise multi-person crews on a variety of survey projects, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveysOperate and maintain survey equipment such as GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and levelsInterpret project plans, specifications, and control requirements to ensure accurate survey dataCollect and accurately document field notes, sketches, and digital data for office processingEnsure compliance with company and industry safety standardsTrain and mentor crew members on field procedures and equipment useCommunicate with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve field issues and clarify requirementsManage daily schedules, crew logistics, and field resourcesPerform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of survey workMaintain survey vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working orderQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field preferredMinimum of 5 years of field surveying experience, including at least 1 year as a Survey Crew ChiefProficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and related survey equipmentExperience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; Trimble Business Center experience preferredWorking knowledge of land surveying data collection proceduresStrong understanding of survey fundamentals, field procedures, and construction stakingIDOT project experience is a plus
