Survey Crew ChiefLocation:
Jeffersonville, INPosition SummaryThe Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading field survey operations, overseeing survey crews, and ensuring the accurate collection of surveying data for a variety of transportation, land development, and infrastructure projects. This role requires a strong balance of technical expertise, leadership, and field coordination to deliver high-quality results safely and efficiently.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise daily survey field crews, assigning tasks and ensuring productivity and safety standards are metPerform and oversee field surveys including boundary, topographic, construction staking, right-of-way, and as-built surveysOperate and maintain survey equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS units, data collectors, and levelsEnsure field data is accurate, complete, and properly documented for transfer to office staff and project teamsRead, interpret, and implement survey plans, plats, construction drawings, and specificationsCoordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and inspectors to support project schedules and objectivesConduct field calculations, layout verification, and quality control checksAdhere to state surveying standards, project requirements, and company safety policiesMaintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working conditionAssist with training and mentoring junior survey staffRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical training in surveying or a related field preferredMinimum of 5 years of progressive field survey experience, including leadership responsibilitiesStrong knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and best practicesProficiency with modern survey instruments and data collection softwareValid driver's license with the ability to operate company vehiclesPreferred QualificationsSurveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification or progress toward professional licensureExperience with transportation, roadway, or civil infrastructure projectsFamiliarity with Indiana surveying standards and practicesSkills and CompetenciesStrong leadership and communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities in the fieldHigh attention to detail and commitment to data accuracyProblem-solving mindset with the ability to make sound field decisionsPhysically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrainWork EnvironmentPrimarily field-based with regular outdoor workOccasional office coordination and documentation tasksSome overtime and travel within the region may be required depending on project schedules
