Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
: The primary roles and responsibilities for this position is to assess proposed field project gathering field data utilizing proper survey equipment reviewing survey layout, prepare calculations and complete all requirements from preconstruction to end of project. Manage equipment logistics to include set up of equipment, perform TOPO's and train current and new employees on equipment w/GPS. Work with field operations team to assist and work through all project plans and specifications.DAILY OVERSIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct field data collection, setting horizontal and vertical controls, topographical surveys, construction stakeout, and other survey requirements.
- Provide work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct infrastructure installation.
- Assess and evaluate potential field operations problems that include completing calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilization of computers to solve identified issues/problems.
- Complete design details and plan sets assisting in the preparation of construction cost estimates.
- Effectively communicating with clients, field operations crews, manager and others in a professional manner.
- Provide technical assistance (i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommend construction methods, equipment, etc.)
- Assist Director of Field Operations and Superintendents in the development and implementation of project schedule, procedures, standards, and other relative documentation required.
- Train and develop all employees on the use of GPS and instruct in any other areas of expertise with approach of mentoring/coaching to advance skills.
- Follow all company standards and safety regulatory requirements.
- Maintain current on training required to fulfill job requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- High school diploma or GED required. College degree or certification within surveying technology preferred but not required.
- 5-7 years of land surveying in the heavy civil industry.
- Experience with AutoCAD, GPS and/or other related survey equipment and software. ProCore experience or other project related software a plus.
- Compile survey project data in a useful format that is understandable to users.
- Must be able work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Bring solid skills in the areas of attention to detail, organization, bring focus, possess a good work ethic and be self-motivated.
- Ability to learn from others as well as be a mentor/coach to others to enhance knowledge of all.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- 100% travel required.
Safety Responsibilities :
- Safety protocols are extremely important to follow.
- Follow all safety training and procedures displaying clear understanding through demonstration of safe work practices.
- Refer to and comply with instructions, requests, orders, and information posted within bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulatory guidance/manuals.
- Must be able to complete and pass requirements for background check and drug screening.
- Ability to obtain eRailSafe badge approval required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Civil Surveyor will frequently stand, walk, climb, and move throughout the workday, use their hands, repeat the same movements, and bend or twist their body while handling products and conducting work. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Frequently move objects up to 30 lbs. Exposed to loud noise with possible exposure to live tracks and trains as well as high voltage areas.WORK ENVIRONMENT
