We are seeking a senior-level utility locator with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in advanced utility locating, including proficiency with EM locating, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and GPS mapping systems. The ideal candidate will have experience working on SUE projects, be adept at detecting non-conductive materials (e.g., PVC), and possess the skillset necessary to independently perform, document, and verify utility investigations to
ASCE 38-22
standards.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Independently perform advanced utility locates for water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecom lines, including PVC and other non-conductive materials. Utilize GPR and GPS to detect and map underground utilities with precision. Produce and verify field sketches and CAD-ready GPS/GIS utility mapping for SUE deliverables. Interpret and verify utility maps, as-built drawings, and one-call tickets. Perform limited vacuum excavation or hand digging for visual verification when required. Collaborate closely with the SUE Manager and Project Managers to meet project goals. Train and mentor junior utility locating staff in best practices and field procedures. Conduct job site safety checks and always maintain safety-first practices. Accurately complete field notes, digital documentation, and daily production logs. Maintain and properly care for all assigned equipment, including GPR units, EM locators, RTK GPS systems, and vehicles. Qualifications (Required): Minimum 2+ years of verifiable utility locating experience, specifically in SUE environments. This position will require driving a company vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license and no infractions for a minimum of 3 years is required to be approved to drive a company vehicle and added to the company insurance policy. Demonstrated experience operating GPR and survey-grade GPS equipment (e.g., Trimble, Topcon, etc). Experience locating PVC and non-metallic utility lines using indirect locating methods and GPR. Strong understanding ofASCE 38-22
utility quality levels and data collection standards. Excellent organizational and field documentation skills. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility plans, and civil site plans. Capable of removing/replacing manhole covers up to 300 lbs and navigating rough terrain. Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Honest, dependable, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious. Preferred (but not required): Experience with vacuum excavationBenefits:
