LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR / PLS CANDIDATE
Future Ownership Opportunity — North Carolina Taylor Land Consultants, PLLC Apex, NC Taylor Land Consultants, PLLC based in Apex, NC, is seeking a North Carolina-licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) — or a surveyor actively working toward NC licensure — to join our team with a clear, structured path toward ownership of the business. After 16 years building this firm, I'm planning for retirement in the next 6 years and want to transition the business to someone who will grow it, not just inherit it. This is a rare opportunity for the right person to step into a leadership role now and into full ownership over time. About the Role Lead and/or support field and office survey operations (boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction staking, subdivision plats, site plans) Work directly with the owner to learn all aspects of running the business: client relationships, bidding, scheduling, vendor and staff management, finances Take on increasing responsibility and decision-making authority as the transition progresses Eventually assume full ownership/principal status, with terms to be mutually negotiated What We're Looking For Active North Carolina PLS license, or demonstrated progress toward NC licensure under G.S. 89C-13, for example:
- Passed (or eligible to sit for) the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam
- Working toward the Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) exam and the required progressive practical experience under a licensed PLS
- Candidates licensed in a neighboring state (Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia) may also be eligible for NC licensure by comity, subject to satisfying NC's requirements and passing the state-specific exam 5 years of professional surveying experience Strong technical skills in AutoCAD, Carlson or other drafting / field software Good character and reputation — NC licensure requires submitting character references to the Board, so this is not just a formality for us either Genuine interest in business ownership — not just a technician role Local knowledge of NC survey law, the NC Standards of Practice for Land Surveying, and recordable map requirements (G.
S. 47-30) a plus What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with experience and licensure status A defined, good-faith pathway to partial then full ownership (structure to be discussed individually — e.g., sweat equity, buy-in over time, seller financing) Mentorship from an owner with 30 years of experience, fully invested in your success Support toward completing NC licensure if not yet fully licensed (exam fees, study time, supervised experience hours under the owner's PLS) An established client base, reputation, and operational systems already in place Health, dental & vision insurance, 401(k), PTO, continuing education support, etc. To Apply Send a resume and a brief note about your career goals and interest in eventual ownership to Confidentiality is respected — let us know if you'd prefer discretion in your inquiry.
