Job Description

Right-of-Way and Asset Management Intern Fast-growing Town of Holly Springs seeks an energetic candidate with a passion for public service who can assist with updating the Town's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan and other asset management initiatives. The ADA Transition Plan is a required assessment and document for municipalities that outlines barriers to accessibility in facilities, public rights-of-way and services.

Town Hall, 128 S Main St., Holly Springs, NC, 27540 This internship will perform the following work:
  • Operate a Town-provided iPhone equipped with the DeepWalk app to scan and collect data on Town-maintained sidewalks and curb ramps.
  • Walk or roll equipment at an approximate pace of 2.5 miles per hour while maintaining accurate and consistent data collection.
  • Participate in training provided by the Town and project consultants to ensure proper use of the iPhone, DeepWalk application, and data collection techniques.
  • Meet regularly with Town staff and consultants to review progress, refine techniques, and ensure accuracy and quality of collected data.
  • Assist in the preparation for APWA Accreditation for Utilities & Infrastructure Department in conjunction with the Public Works Department
  • Assist with the Strategic Asset Management Plan Project and other asset management initiatives led by the Business Asset Management division.
  • Learn about different municipal functions and operations.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Asset Management / ADA Coordinator and Business Asset Management Division Manager.
Required Skills:
  • Majority of work is performed outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions, with occasional indoor duties as assigned.
  • Must be comfortable working outside for extended periods and able to maintain focus while completing route-based assignments.
  • Ability to safely and steadily hold a Town provided iPhone at chest height for periods of up to 30 minutes at a time, with brief breaks provided.
  • Must demonstrate good hand stability and attention to detail while using mobile equipment in the field.
  • Reliable transportation is required to travel to assigned daily routes and work locations.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Education and Experience:
The position requires enrollment or graduation in curriculum relating to Civil Engineering, Business, GIS, Asset Management, or a related field. Experience with GPS/Collector Applications and Microsoft Excel/Access preferred. GIS software experience, particularly with ArcGIS, is a plus. An ideal candidate would have experience in this or a related field. Must know how to operate an iPhone and have a valid N.C. driver's license.
