- 6/24/2026 The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a visionary, self-motivated leader to step into the role of Region ROW Survey Coordinator in Region One.
In this position you will operate with a high level of independence performing "field to finish" topographic surveys with UDOT highway corridors and providing control networks in the field for Region projects. Adequate time in the office will then ensue to accommodate the post processing of both total station and GPS data in order to provide a deliverable product for the team. Key Responsibilities As the Region ROW Survey Coordinator, you will apply intensive, diversified knowledge of surveying and engineering principles to execute the following duties: Quality control surveys. Resolve survey questions, disputes or conflicts with stakeholders. Perform topographic Region One survey needs for proposed projects with advanced survey instruments such as GPS, EDM, Lidar, UAS, etc. Provide solutions and procedures to support horizontal and vertical control through the region corridors and provide reference to various control monuments. Transfer field data from various surveying techniques to DGN drawing files and digital terrain models. Gather evidence via research of public records (deeds, easements and plats, etc.) as well as locating physical evidence on the ground with surveying instruments (EDM, GPS, etc.) for boundary determination. Prepare CADD files of surveyed data for use in engineering design and/or property descriptions. Perform field staking of various project elements as needed throughout design, advertising, and construction phase of projects. Prepare engineering and design plans using computer assisted engineering and design software. Prepare Survey Control sheets for local projects. Advise engineers of technical problems with proposed solutions. Research survey data from survey and county records. Negotiate schedule for survey projects with customers. Receive and respond to public inquiries regarding state Right-of-Ways. Coordinate region assistance with the public, other government agencies and other groups within the department with questions and requests regarding property management, access management, right-of-way documents, claims, disputes, and conflicts involving department property. Distribute requested public records of right-of-way to the public in accordance with policies and GRAMA regulations. Completing title searches and abstracts to identify ownership of property, easements and right-of-way in the County Recorder Office and other relevant repositories. Coordinate the maintenance of existing and new right-of-way files, maps, documents, and correspondence in department and region record keeping systems. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications To thrive as our Region ROW Survey Coordinator, you must: Have 5
- 7 years or more of surveying experience or be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Utah, or be able to obtain licensure within the first 6 months of hire.
Must have 2 or more years of experience in Right-of-Way and constructions plan reading and review. Must have a valid driver's license or be able to obtain one with the first 6 months of hire. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team, comprehend complex materials, and give or follow clear direction.
Preferred knowledge and qualifications include:
A degree in Surveying and Geomatics or Geodesy (Associate or Bachelor) Geo-referencing and mapping UDOT's transfer and sale of real property UDOT's Right-of-Way design process UDOT's most current surveying and geomatics standards UDOT's project delivery system and the QC/QA process MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, and Trimble Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and drone experience About the Role Location
