We are seeking an experienced Survey Department Manager to lead and grow our surveying team. The Survey Department Manager will oversee field and office survey operations, ensure accurate and compliant deliverables, manage project scheduling and budgets, and serve as the technical and managerial point of contact for land development, residential, easement drafting, and subdivision projects. This role requires strong technical survey knowledge, leadership ability, and client-facing skills to maintain quality, safety, and timely delivery. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the survey department including field crews, CAD/drafting staff, and support personnel to deliver accurate surveying and platting work on schedule and within budget. Coordinate project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and workload balancing across multiple concurrent land development, residential, and subdivision projects. Provide technical oversight and quality control for boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, easement preparation and drafting, platting/plat preparation, and legal descriptions. Review and approve survey deliverables, including plats, easement exhibits, record of surveys, and as-built drawings for compliance with state regulations, client requirements, and internal standards. Maintain active communication with clients, engineers, planners, attorneys, and permitting authorities to resolve technical issues, obtain approvals, and coordinate project milestones. Ensure compliance with safety policies, professional standards, and local regulatory requirements; implement and promote best practices for field work and data management. Recruit, mentor, and develop survey staff; conduct performance evaluations, training, and professional development to grow in-house capabilities. Manage departmental budgets, equipment procurement and maintenance, and adoption of surveying technologies such as GNSS, total stations, and CAD/GIS software. Support business development efforts by preparing proposals, scopes, estimates, and participating in client meetings to secure new projects. Maintain accurate project documentation, timesheets, and reporting to senior management. Serve as the point person for permitting and submission of plats to local jurisdictions, coordinating necessary revisions and follow-ups. Qualifications:
Active RPLS (Registered Professional Land Surveyor) preferred or equivalent state licensure highly desirable. Minimum 58 years of progressive surveying experience with demonstrated responsibility on land development, residential, and subdivision projects; at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role. Proven experience with platting/plat preparation, easement drafting, boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS standards, and legal descriptions. Strong technical proficiency with surveying equipment (GNSS, total stations, levels), field data collection workflows, and office software including AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Carlson or similar survey/CAD tools, and GIS applications. Experience managing scheduling, budgeting, project documentation, and quality-control procedures across multiple projects. Excellent leadership, communication, client management, and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, planners, attorneys, and permitting agencies.
