We are seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field survey crews and deliver accurate, timely land surveying services for residential, commercial, and civil construction projects. The Party Chief will manage field operations, oversee data collection and quality control, coordinate with project managers and engineers, and ensure compliance with legal and safety standards. Ideal candidates will have strong experience in land and construction surveying, familiarity with subdivision and residential projects, and proficiency with CAD and surveying instruments. RPLS certification or the ability to work under a Registered Professional Land Surveyor is preferred.Key Responsibilities:
Lead, train, and supervise field survey crews to perform boundary, topographic, construction layout, and ALTA/NSPS
surveys for residential, subdivision, and civil projects.
Plan and organize field operations, including equipment setup, task delegation, and daily logistics to meet project schedules and budgets.
Operate and maintain surveying instruments such as total stations, GNSS/RTK receivers, levels, and data collectors; ensure calibration and proper care of equipment.
Collect, process, and verify field data, perform quality control checks, and prepare clear field notes and as-built documentation.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, and clients to clarify project requirements, resolve field issues, and communicate progress and findings.
Prepare and deliver precise field reports, staking layouts, and field measurements to CAD or GIS technicians for mapping and plan production.
Interpret legal descriptions, plats, and survey records; assist in boundary determinations and research public records when required.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, promote safe field practices, and conduct site safety briefings.
Assist with permitting, right-of-way, and subdivision plat preparation by providing accurate field information and CAD-ready data.
Support project estimating and scheduling by providing input on field time, equipment needs, and manpower for proposals and project plans.Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of progressive land surveying experience including work as a Party Chief or lead surveyor on residential, subdivision, or construction projects.
Familiarity with boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, ALTA/NSPS standards, and subdivision platting.
Experience using GNSS/RTK, total stations, digital levels, and data collectors; proficiency transferring and checking field data.
Skilled in CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D preferred) and basic GIS tools for preparing and delivering survey data and staking plans.
Working knowledge of construction and civil engineering plans and terminology; ability to coordinate with engineers and contractors.
RPLS (Registered Professional Land Surveyor) credential preferred or ability to work under the supervision of an RPLS.Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills; attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, court-admissible survey work.
Valid drivers license, willingness to travel to job sites, and ability to work outdoors in variable weather and terrain.
