Job Description
A growing engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Surveyor (PLS) to support industrial and infrastructure projects across multiple market sectors. This role is well‑suited for a licensed surveyor who enjoys hands‑on project involvement, field leadership, and collaboration with engineering and construction teams. The position is based in Salt Lake City, with regular travel to active project sites.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare proposal scopes, schedules, deliverables, manhour estimates, and technical qualificationsDevelop, implement, and maintain surveying workflows, operating procedures, and QA/QC standardsLead, mentor, and train surveying, scanning, and field staff to ensure high‑quality, on‑schedule project executionPerform a wide range of survey services including:
Topographic, boundary, construction, and as‑built surveysSubsurface utility surveys and benchmarkingPost‑construction and record surveysProvide construction staking and layout for sites, facilities, structures, roadways, grading, drainage features, rail alignments, and easementsExecute building control, laser scanning capture, and post‑processing activitiesSupport field validation and quality assurance using robotic total stations and GPS equipmentPlan and perform layout, set‑out, and back‑check tasks utilizing known backsights and multi‑point resectionsCoordinate and oversee drone surveying and quantity/volume calculationsAssist with development of construction drawings and record drawingsCollaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and CAD teams to address design changes and site conditionsPerform in‑process quality control of field activities and survey calculationsPrepare field notes, sketches, and documentationSign and seal surveys, maps, and survey‑related documentsParticipate in client meetings and, when needed, support marketing or business development presentationsRequired QualificationsProfessional Land Surveyor (PLS) licenseStrong proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and survey data collection workflowsDemonstrated experience with survey data processing and organizationExperience with LiDAR scanning equipment and softwareAbility to import and manage survey data in AutoCADWorking knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS ProBasic understanding of GIS datasets, geodatabases, and map layersWillingness and ability to travel to project sites as required
