Job Title:
Test Technician Job Description The Test Technician supports manufacturing test processes by performing detailed debug and diagnostic work down to the component level on electronic assemblies. This role maintains and improves test equipment and procedures, troubleshoots complex issues, and collaborates closely with test engineers and production teams to ensure high-quality, reliable products. The position requires a seasoned professional who can work with minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the test function. Responsibilities Perform debug and testing of electronic assemblies down to the component level using block diagrams, schematics, and appropriate test equipment. Conduct routine tester maintenance and upkeep to ensure reliable and accurate test performance. Troubleshoot operator issues and test problems, collaborating with leadership to drive training and process improvements. Provide hands-on training, guidance, and ongoing support to test operators to ensure consistent and effective test execution. Communicate test, debug, and equipment issues clearly and promptly to test engineers and leadership. Assist in performing experiments for failure analysis and root cause analysis to resolve complex product and process issues. Recommend additional equipment, tools, or resources needed for effective product debug and test areas. Participate actively in Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement activities to enhance test processes and product quality. Comply with and follow all company security policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. Work on problems of diverse scope, analyzing data and evaluating identifiable factors to determine appropriate methods and techniques for solutions. Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal teams and external partners. Deliver engineer-quality work on complex products and issues, demonstrating a full understanding of the test and debug specialization. Manage day-to-day tasks with minimal instruction while following general guidance on new assignments. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the broader test engineering and manufacturing organization. Essential Skills 5+ years of hands-on testing experience down to the component level on electronic assemblies. 3+ years of experience in a leadership or lead technician role, providing guidance and support to others. Strong PCBA and component-level diagnostic skills, including experience with printed circuit board assemblies. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and block diagrams. Prior electronics experience in a manufacturing or test environment. Experience with testing methods such as flying probe and hipot testing, as well as other diagnostic test techniques. Working knowledge of test equipment, test tools, test procedures, test plans, and diagnostic testing methods. Ability to perform mechanical and electrical debug and repair on assemblies and prototypes. Basic understanding of test measurement and debug techniques applied to electronic products. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-functional collaboration. Effective interpersonal skills for working with colleagues at all levels and with customers as needed. Strong multitasking abilities and capacity to take on additional responsibilities as required. Effective organization and prioritization skills with high attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism in all activities. Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent, sound judgments in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of and ability to use continuous improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies. Strong customer service and client focus in supporting internal and external stakeholders. Working knowledge of productivity tools, including Microsoft Office applications and Teams conferencing software. Additional Skills & Qualifications Some college coursework and 5+ years of testing experience down to the component level. Familiarity with IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards for electronic assemblies and cable harnesses. Experience with prototype testing, repair, and diagnostic evaluation. Experience working with PCBA and printed circuit boards in a production or engineering environment. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required. Excellent presentation skills for sharing findings, training, and recommendations. 2-year engineering or technical degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Work Environment This is an onsite role supporting the test engineering function in a manufacturing environment. The Test Technician works directly with electronic assemblies, printed circuit boards, and a variety of test equipment and diagnostic tools. The position involves close collaboration with test engineers, operators, and other technical staff in a hands-on production setting. The work environment emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with exposure to standard electronics manufacturing equipment and processes. The role may require flexibility to support a 24/7 global business operation as needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Huntsville, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
