Dearborn, Michigan, United States Talascend is currently seeking an Engine Test Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Dearborn, Michigan. Overview The Engine Test Technician supports engineering research, development, or certification testing of vehicles, sub-systems, components, or materials. The role involves collecting data using specialized equipment, supporting diagnosis, and ensuring operational efficiency and data quality at our Dearborn location. Responsibilities Support execution of test procedures while collecting high-quality data using specialized equipment including dynamometers, analyzers, flow meters, environmental chambers, and other measurement tools.
Support installation of test units onto test stands with mounting fixtures, instrumentation, and fluid or electrical connections.
Perform regular maintenance, replace parts, and request shop supplies.
Support diagnosis and issue resolution for test units, equipment control software, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, or facilities.
Maintain accurate records of test units, tests run, maintenance, and part changes.
Collaborate directly with engineers to operate at experimental conditions.
Support calibration and maintenance of test equipment to ensure accuracy and ISO compliance. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of experience in an automotive testing environment.
Minimum 1 year of mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, or fabrication experience.
Good computer skills with a willingness to learn new skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Good customer service and organizational skills.
Basic knowledge of internal combustion engines, fuel systems, components, or material properties.
Ability to learn and follow detailed test procedures while recording data.
Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree or Technical School certification.
2 years of experience testing powertrains, engines, fuel systems, emissions, chassis components, or material properties.
Experience operating or calibrating emissions analyzers, flow meters, or tensile test machines.
Experience with fabrication of metals or composite materials.
Valid driver's license.
Proficiency with MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Good metal or composite fabrication skills.
Knowledge of common testing equipment and software used in engine, fuel systems, or material testing environments.
Knowledge of emissions equipment including Horiba or AVL gas analyzers, smoke meters, or opacity meters.
Ability to diagnose issues with engines, powertrains, or experimental test setups. We thank all applicants for their interest.
