We are seeking a motivated and experienced Roadway Engineer with 5 to 10 years of roadway design experience to join our growing transportation team. This role is ideal for a self-driven professional who is eager to expand their technical expertise, take on increasingly complex challenges, and grow within a collaborative engineering environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience delivering transportation projects for local public agencies and jurisdictions, with a strong understanding of roadway design standards, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery from planning through final design. Responsibilities Lead or support the planning, design, and delivery of a wide range of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
Prepare engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports for public agency projects
Develop roadway geometric designs, grading plans, striping plans, signing plans, and traffic control concepts
Coordinate with internal disciplines including traffic engineering, drainage, utility coordination, environmental, right-of-way, and construction support teams
Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and agency coordination efforts
Assist with project schedule management, budget tracking, and quality control reviews
Support proposal development, technical approaches, and scope preparation for transportation pursuits
Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
5-10 years of professional experience in roadway design
Experience delivering transportation projects for cities, counties, and other public agencies
Strong working knowledge of industry standards, including AASHTO Green Book, Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), and
CA MUTCD
Proficiency with roadway design and modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced consulting environment
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and technically curious, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. California Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required; however, candidates who are licensed or actively pursuing licensure are strongly preferred
Experience supporting a range of transportation projects, such as roadway improvements & re, multimodal corridors, active transportation facilities, traffic calming, ADA accessibility upgrades, and utility coordination
Physical Demands:
Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions:
Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required. The typical base salary range for this position is $121,000.00 - $160,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
