Job Description

Jacobs is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Traffic) to join our Transportation team in Pompano Beach or Orlando in Summer 2026 working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients' challenges locally and worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for our Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) clients; aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure. In this position you will work with a multidisciplinary team taking on a variety of tasks that blend your theoretical knowledge with practical application. Under the guidance of professional engineers, architects and other senior technical staff you will work on a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects related to traffic operations, safety analysis, corridor studies, traffic simulation modeling, signal timing & operations, and traffic design (signals, signs, pavement markings, illumination, ITS, etc.). Work will be performed utilizing Big Data, with traffic engineering software including SYNCHRO, Vissim, Highway Capacity Software (HCS) as well as traffic design software like OpenRoads and SignCAD.
Your Responsibilities May Include:
Support highway, roadway, and traffic engineering projects through CAD design, calculations, and technical documentation Assist with traffic analysis and studies (e.g., forecasting, safety, simulation, impact, and signal warrant studies) Support traffic signal operations and design, including timing optimization, clearance calculations, and data entry Collaborate with project engineers, project managers, and transportation agencies on safety, operations, and infrastructure improvements Use engineering and traffic software (e.g., OpenRoads, GuideSign, Synchro) and standard office tools Participate in design reviews, research codes and design options, and assist with cost estimating as experience allows In pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution Completed coursework related to transportation engineering or highway/roadway design Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically
Excel Ideally, You Will Have:
3.0 GPA At least a rising Junior Familiarity with CAD software, such as MicroStation and AutoCAD A previous internship related to your field of study Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software (preferably Microstation/OpenRoads/AutoCADD) Jacobs is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
