Job Description

Under limited supervision, promotes the implementation of traffic signal improvements through hands on interaction and intervention with consultants, contractors, staff, and management, including close coordination with administration to actively seek improvement and enhancement of current processes and procedures. •Candidates who meet the minimum requirements should expect to start at the minimum of the pay band. • Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Works with other supervisors in Traffic Engineering's Signal Section to oversee and manage the Division's traffic signal and ITS infrastructure. Specific duties may include developing and overseeing a new mast arm inspection program and new ATMS maintenance program, assisting in project management of

funded
ITS/ATMS
projects, coordinating and overseeing contractors working on Division projects, coordinating and performing plan reviews and working with others to locate our signal and fiber infrastructure both in the field and on plans. Assists in the administration of construction and professional service contracts for design, construction, and maintenance of traffic control devices. Investigates and responds to citizens, officials, other County Departments, and agencies concerning traffic control and related complaints, concerns and issues. Interacts with law enforcement agencies, and other governmental bodies as deemed necessary to realize the Department's vision and goals. Is actively involved in planning the Divisions traffic signal budget. Performs other related work as required. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. Associates Degree and five (5) years of traffic engineering experience to include two (2) years in a responsible supervisory position with a governmental agency or competent traffic engineering consulting firm required. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates, superiors, and the general public. Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of traffic engineering, as well as production methods, supervisory and administrative practices. Considerable knowledge of design practices and standards for design of traffic signals, fiber infrastructure and
ITS/ATMS
devices. Extensive knowledge of the national and state transportation standards, AASHTO, MUTCD, and ITE guidelines. Complete working knowledge of and proficient use of computer aided tools. Ability to read and comprehend plans as well as generate technical drawings, spreadsheets, reports and other documents as deemed necessary. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
