Job Description

Job Description Role Overview:
Our client in the West Palm Beach area is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to lead and manage traffic engineering functions across the City. This role is responsible for overseeing traffic operations, reviewing development plans, managing capital and construction projects, responding to public concerns, and serving as a key technical advisor to City leadership and elected officials. This is a senior‑level position with direct impact on roadway safety, traffic operations, and multimodal mobility initiatives citywide. Day to
Day Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee traffic engineering operations, including traffic volumes, speeds, signage, signalization, and traffic ordinances
  • Review and approve subdivision plats and development site plans for compliance with City and state traffic standards
  • Respond to and resolve complex and sensitive traffic complaints and public inquiries, including requests from elected officials and City leadership
  • Coordinate traffic‑related efforts with Police, Fire, Public Works, and Development Services
  • Manage capital transportation projects, including roadway, micromobility, and transit‑related infrastructure
  • Conduct and oversee traffic studies, technical analyses, and preparation of engineering reports
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to City Commission, advisory boards, and community groups
  • Act as liaison with Palm Beach County, FDOT, and neighboring municipalities
  • Oversee consultants, develop RFPs, and manage professional service contracts Support transportation planning efforts, parking studies, and long‑range mobility initiatives

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Florida PE required; out‑of‑state PE acceptable with ability to obtain Florida licensure within 60 days)
  • 5+ years of experience across all aspects of traffic engineering
  • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
  • Strong working knowledge of MUTCD, traffic control standards, and state/federal transportation regulations
  • Experience reviewing development plans and managing public right‑of‑way impacts Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain a Florida license shortly after hire)
  • Prior experience in a municipal or public‑sector environment
  • Experience coordinating with FDOT, counties, and regional transportation agencies
  • Background in parking studies, traffic signal systems, or multimodal planning Strong public‑facing communication and presentation skills
