The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Traffic Engineer III to join our West Palm Beach, FL office. In this role, you will support a variety of transportation engineering and Traffic Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) initiatives for FDOT and local agency clients throughout Florida. You will work alongside a team of transportation professionals focused on improving mobility, safety, and operational performance through innovative traffic engineering solutions and data-driven decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile transportation projects, including arterial traffic signal retiming programs, TSM&O studies, performance measurement initiatives, and operational analyses that directly impact the traveling public. You will collaborate with transportation engineers, planners, and public agencies while developing expertise in traffic operations, signal timing, transportation analytics, and emerging mobility technologies.
What You'll Do:
As a Traffic Engineer, you will analyze transportation data, evaluate traffic operations, develop performance measures, and support the implementation of transportation system improvements. You will contribute to traffic studies, signal timing projects, mobility analyses, and TSM&O initiatives while working closely with multidisciplinary project teams and agency stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze transportation data including traffic volumes, travel time data, traffic signal controller data, crash data, and other operational performance metrics. Support traffic signal timing evaluations, corridor operational assessments, and arterial management initiatives. Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of TSM&O performance measure dashboards and reporting tools. Perform traffic engineering analyses related to safety, mobility, traffic operations, speed management, and multimodal transportation systems. Develop technical reports, memoranda, presentations, and recommendations based on transportation data and engineering evaluations. Conduct traffic studies, intersection evaluations, operational assessments, and transportation system performance reviews. Analyze pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicular traffic data to support transportation planning and operational improvements. Utilize traffic analysis and simulation software to evaluate existing and proposed transportation improvements. Support the design and evaluation of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control plans. Collaborate with FDOT staff, local agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams to develop innovative transportation solutions. Present findings and recommendations through technical memoranda, reports, and stakeholder presentations.
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's degree preferred. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PTOE certification preferred. Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, transportation engineering, or traffic operations. Experience supporting FDOT projects and familiarity with FDOT standards and procedures preferred. Experience with traffic engineering software including Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, CORSIM, SIDRA, or similar analysis tools. Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD. Familiarity with transportation data analytics, performance measurement programs, and traffic operations studies. Knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM), ADA requirements, and applicable transportation design standards. Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation development. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
