Position Overview Join the RTC as an Engineering Traffic Manager and play a pivotal leadership role in advancing the region's traffic operations and transportation systems. This position is ideal for a forward-thinking leader who is driven to challenge the status quo and implement innovative, data-driven solutions that improve how our community moves. As the manager of our Traffic Management Center, you will lead complex programs and projects while guiding a team of engineers and consultants in the delivery of modern, efficient, and safe transportation systems. This role is instrumental in advancing RTC's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) strategies, including the continued development of a regional Traffic Management Center and integrated corridor operations. You will work at the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and strategy —overseeing projects from concept through implementation, collaborating with regional partners, and driving solutions such as signal coordination, real-time traffic management, and improved incident response. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of traffic operations and deliver meaningful, system-wide improvements across the region. Key Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and manage transportation and traffic engineering programs and roadway improvement projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, timelines, and industry best practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop traffic engineering staff, fostering technical growth, independent problem-solving, and strong project management skills.
  • Oversee the review of traffic engineering plans, reports, and designs; ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Manage traffic consultant and contractor performance, including scope development, negotiations, scheduling, and conflict resolution.
  • Analyze transportation and traffic data to inform project decisions, improve system performance, and support regional mobility goals.
  • Develop and manage project and program budgets, including cash flow projections, funding allocation, and contract/invoice review.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, regional agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate projects, resolve complex issues, and advance transportation initiatives.
  • Represent the RTC in presentations to leadership, elected officials, advisory committees, and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including safety standards and engineering requirements.
  • Support departmental leadership and may act on behalf of the Engineering Director as needed. Minimum Qualifications To be considered, candidates must meet one of the following:
  • Six (6) years of applicable experience including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Professional Engineer registration required with ability to obtain State of Nevada registration within one year of hire.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification
  • preferred
  • Valid driver's license at time of hire is required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties. Benefits Package
