Job Title:
Roadway Engineer Job Description We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Engineer to join our growing Road Group. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of complex and high-profile transportation projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines. As a Project Engineer, you will perform technical design work, manage project components, and serve as a key liaison between clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate is self-driven, has a strong knowledge in roadway and transportation engineering, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with at least 4 years of related experience. Responsibilities Perform conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design for transportation and roadway projects. Develop and oversee geometric design, maintenance of traffic, drainage, and signing/pavement marking plans. Lead or support the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Develop and review 3D roadway models and related digital design deliverables. Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers and design technicians. Ensure quality control and compliance with applicable design standards and client requirements. Collaborate with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams on project coordination and technical issues. Contribute to project scoping, scheduling, and proposal development as needed. Essential Skills Strong experience in transportation engineering and roadway design. Proficiency in Civil 3D, Microstation, and OpenRoads. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT). At least 4 years of related experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Experience with ODOT or public infrastructure projects is strongly preferred. 5-10 years of professional experience preferred. Work Environment The work environment is a professional firm with full service offerings, including site civil, survey, and transportation. The dress code is business casual. The Columbus office has about 75 employees, with headquarters in Indianapolis. There is hybrid flexibility and typically involves working 40-50 hours per week. The culture is friendly and not corporate, despite competing with larger firms on significant projects. You can work from satellite offices in Blue Ash, Akron, or downtown Cleveland. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH.
