The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region Construction & CIP Support, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! What you will be doing: This Engineering Assistant 3 position serves as the Senior Quality Assurance Rover. This position will coordinate the Construction Materials closeout among the other Rovers. In addition, this position will create material summaries and acceptance actions, perform assurance sampling and testing, field lab inspections, records reviews and preparation of materials certifications. They also provide training in DOT&PF procedures, in classroom settings as well as one-on-one coaching in the field, as needed. You will collaborate with multiple functional groups within the department, coordinate with staff from multiple areas of expertise, and assist with public and agency meetings to successfully construct capital improvement projects in Central Region, tby delivering the department's mission. The working environment you can expect: This position is permanently stationed in Anchorage and will include frequent travel during summer construction, including flights to rural villages. The work will include material sampling and testing on projects site, design plan reviews, materials closeout reviews and assisting with training. The successful incumbent will be interacting with project staff, project managers, as well as other working groups both inside and outside of the Department of Transportation. Civil Engineering:

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.

Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Quality Assurance:

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards.

AND Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsew.

Or:

A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET. AND An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. AND Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsew.

Substitutions:

Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree. Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).
