Job Title:
Traffic Engineer Job Description We are seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to lead and manage comprehensive traffic engineering studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting operational analyses, safety evaluations, and multimodal assessments, while also developing traffic design plans and improvements. Responsibilities Conduct traffic engineering studies, including operational analyses, safety evaluations, multimodal assessments, and corridor studies. Develop traffic design plans such as signing and pavement marking, traffic signal design, ITS layouts, maintenance-of-traffic plans, and intersection improvements. Perform and review technical analyses using industry-standard tools like Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, and RODEL. Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and design documentation to clearly communicate findings and recommendations. Serve as Engineer of Record, providing technical oversight, QA/QC, and professional engineering certification. Coordinate with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project goals, schedules, and budgets are met. Manage project teams, mentor junior engineers, and support staff development. Support business development activities, including proposal writing, scope development, and client presentations. Ensure compliance with MUTCD, state DOT standards, and local agency regulations. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred). Professional Engineer (PE) license in the applicable state or ability to obtain via comity. 15+ years of experience in traffic engineering analysis and design. Strong understanding of traffic operations, safety analysis, and multimodal design principles. Proficiency with traffic modeling and simulation software. Experience preparing traffic signal timing plans, intersection designs, and traffic control plans. Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with clients and agencies. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work on schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in highway design and transportation engineering. Capability in managing transportation and traffic engineering projects. Work Environment The role involves working in a dynamic environment that requires collaboration with clients and agencies. The position may include office and field work, adhering to professional attire guidelines. Use of industry-standard software and adherence to regulatory standards is essential. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Murfreesboro, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $52.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
