Traffic Engineer Print Apply Traffic Engineer Salary $34.38 Hourly Location Beaumont, TX Job Type Full Time Job Number 6123 Department Public Works Department Opening Date 05/07/2026 Description Benefits Questions Duties and Responsibilities Investigates and designs solutions for traffic issues; Acts as liaison between consultant engineers, contractors, and the City on construction projects; prepares and directs preparation of construction plans, specifications, and estimates on general and traffic related projects; performs field visits to monitor the performance of consultant engineer and/or contractor; reviews subdivision construction plans and contract documents for compliance with City standards; reviews commercial development construction plans and contract documents for compliance with City standards; consults with other divisions on traffic related items; plans, schedules, coordinates and conducts construction activities to conform with needs and budgetary constraints; responds to citizens' concerns regarding traffic and engineering related items; reviews traffic impact studies, temporary traffic control plans, and transportation-related aspects of special events and development projects; occasionally attends civic meetings and presents technical reports.

May be exposed to changing weather and construction hazards during monitoring and inspection procedures; works outside in all types of weather; works in manholes and trenches/ditches; is exposed to constant and extreme noise, dust/mites, mechanical hazards, temperature swings, heights and cold weather; works in warehouse and storeroom. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be available to work overtime as needed. Must be available to work extended hours as needed. Position may be considered essential during emergency situations.
Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge :
Thorough knowledge of civil engineering (traffic and transportation related) and construction practices.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to recognize conditions likely to result in collapse or failure of facilities and structures that are completed or are under construction; ability to explain, interpret and enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; ability to read, write and do simple mathematical calculations; ability to operate transit, level, calculator, mall, shovel and pick-up truck. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and the public.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly sees and uses a calculator; frequently kneels, sorts, stands, writes by hand, sits, walks, drives, performs data entry and uses a P.C., holds objects weighing up to 10 lbs., carries objects weighing up to 20 lbs.; infrequently types, files, cleans, runs, twists body, squats, stoops, crawls, climbs, lifts objects weighing up to 20 lbs, pulls or pushes objects weighing up to 25 lbs., drags objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
