Job Description
Traffic Engineer IIPosition SummaryThe Traffic Engineer II supports the Division and/or Project Manager in the preparation of high-quality traffic engineering studies and construction plans for a variety of public- and private-sector clients. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who performs well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and is capable of applying critical thinking to make independent engineering judgements and design decisions.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop complex traffic signal plans and traffic simulation models to support capacity analyses and level-of-service evaluations.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).Quickly learn and apply new design standards, procedures, and local ordinances.
Consistently apply GDOT and internal design standards to all project work.
Prepare clear, accurate, and well-organized technical reports and supporting documentation.
Prepare and review construction plans for traffic signals and other traffic control systems in accordance with GDOT and local jurisdiction requirements.
Prepare and review traffic engineering studies supporting projects with state and local agencies, as well as private development clients.
Apply knowledge of GDOT's Project Development Process (PDP), Preconstruction Project Guide (PPG), and Engineering Design Guide (EDG).Maintain a strong working knowledge of state, county, and municipal ordinances, including ADA requirements.
Collect, analyze, and evaluate traffic data, including traffic counts, crash data, field observations, signal timing data, and basic survey information.
Prepare accurate construction cost estimates.
Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, and agency partners.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant traffic engineering or transportation design experience.
Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in the State of Georgia required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia preferred.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro, HCS, PC Warrants, and VISSIM.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe PDF software.
