Job Description

Traffic Engineer (Future Practice Lead) I'm currently working with a growing engineering firm that is looking to bring on a Traffic Engineer who's ready to step into something bigger than a typical role-this is someone they see evolving into a team leader and eventually building out their own traffic group. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical side of traffic engineering and the business side of growing a practice. The Opportunity You'll come in as a key player within the organization, supporting existing transportation projects while helping to expand traffic capabilities and establish a stronger market presence. Over time, this role is expected to grow into a leadership position where you'll have the autonomy to hire, mentor, and shape your own team. What You'll Be Doing Lead and support the design and delivery of traffic engineering projects, including: Traffic signals, ITS, signing & striping, and MOT plans Traffic impact studies, safety analysis, and operational improvements Serve as a technical resource across multidisciplinary transportation projects Play an active role in business development, including: Building and maintaining client relationships Supporting and leading proposal efforts (RFPs, scope/fee development) Identifying new opportunities within existing and new markets Collaborate with leadership on strategic growth of the traffic discipline Help define workflows, standards, and the long-term vision for the team Mentor junior staff as the group begins to grow What They're Looking For 5+ years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering Strong background in traffic design, analysis, and/or operations Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (or ability to obtain) Experience with tools such as Synchro, HCS, Vissim, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, or similar Comfortable in a client-facing role with strong communication skills Interest in (or experience with) business development and winning work Someone who wants to step into leadership and build something, not just execute tasks Why This Role Stands Out Clear path to build and lead your own traffic engineering team Opportunity to blend technical work with strategy and growth High visibility within the organization, your impact will be felt quickly Less red tape, more opportunity to shape how things are done Strong support from leadership, but with real autonomy to grow the practice If you've been thinking about moving into a role where you can own your work, influence direction, and build something from the ground up, this is the kind of opportunity that doesn't come around often.
