Job Description Role Overview:
Seeking a senior‑level civil/traffic engineering leader to serve as County Traffic Engineer, managing ~35 staff across Road & Traffic Engineering and Survey units. This role owns traffic engineering strategy, capital project delivery, traffic safety programs, and staff leadership for King County's roadway network.Core Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage Road & Traffic Engineering and Survey units (people, budgets, hiring, performance)
- Act as County Traffic Engineer for King County
- Oversee traffic operations, safety programs, and Traffic Management Center
- Manage complex, multi‑year capital roadway and traffic projects
- Oversee consultant contracts and serve as Engineer of Record as needed
- Certify plans, specs, estimates, and technical deliverables
- Collaborate with internal departments, partner agencies, elected officials, and community groups

- 10+ years road design, traffic engineering, and project management experience
- 7+ years in traffic operations and capital project/program delivery
- Progressive people‑management experience (hiring, evaluations, team leadership)
- Strong experience with
MUTCD, WSDOT, FHWA, AASHTO
standards- Experience signing/sealing plans and overseeing construction
- Ability to navigate political and public‑facing environments
- WA State PE required (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Experience with Cityworks or similar asset management systems
