Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems, manufacturing processes, and inspection methods to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements. The Quality Engineer partners with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customers to improve product quality, reduce risk, enhance process capability, and support on-time delivery. This position plays a key role in maintaining AS9100 and NADCAP compliance, supporting customer requirements, driving corrective actions, and developing scalable quality processes to support company growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Planning & Product Realization Review customer drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and quality requirements. Participate in contract review and quality planning activities for new products and programs. Develop and review inspection plans, control plans, sampling plans, and quality documentation. Ensure customer-specific requirements are properly incorporated into manufacturing and inspection processes. Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with customer and industry requirements. Process Capability & Manufacturing Support Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for quality improvement and risk reduction. Support process validation, capability studies, and statistical analysis. Monitor process performance using SPC, capability metrics, and quality data. Partner with manufacturing personnel to improve yields, reduce scrap, and improve process consistency. Support implementation of mistake-proofing and process controls where appropriate. Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement Lead root cause investigations for internal nonconformances, customer complaints, supplier issues, and escapes. Facilitate corrective and preventive action activities using structured problem-solving methodologies. Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure timely closure. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Utilize tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, Pareto Analysis, and FMEA. Customer & Supplier Quality Serve as a quality liaison with customers regarding quality concerns, corrective actions, and technical quality requirements. Support customer audits and source inspections. Assist with supplier quality investigations and corrective action requests. Evaluate supplier quality performance and support supplier improvement efforts. Inspection & Metrology Support Support development and optimization of inspection methods and measurement strategies. Review dimensional inspection reports, FAI packages, and capability studies. Assist in selection and implementation of inspection equipment and metrology technologies. Support Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and gauge capability studies. Provide technical guidance to inspectors and quality technicians. Quality Management System Support maintenance and continual improvement of the AS9100 Quality Management System. Participate in internal audits and external audits. Assist with development and revision of procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation. Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of Quality Engineering experience in an AS9100 aerospace, defense, or space manufacturing environment.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and customer quality requirements.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods and process capability analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience supporting CNC machining operations.
- Knowledge of First Article Inspection requirements (AS9102).
- Experience with SPC, MSA, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
- Experience with ERP/MES systems.
- CQE certification from the American Society for Quality, preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification, preferred.
