Data Engineer, Fleet Analytics, Cell Quality & Field Reliability Tesla Motors, Inc. 120,000 - 180,000 USD paid holidays, flex time, 401(k) United States, California, Fremont May 29, 2026
What to Expect The Cell Quality team is a small team within the R D organization responsible for incoming, production and field reliability. The group projects focus on mass production of Li-ion cells for all programs, including Model 3, Y, Cybertruck, Semi and Energy Products.
The position is to drive daily fleet diagnostics and analytics activities and process improvements suggestions based on fleet data and known field returns for all cell programs, Candidate is expected to lead or support quality-focused multidisciplinary cell-related projects, typically involving R D, Design or Production organizations. The engineer must be extremely organized, detail orientated, with strong ability to prioritize and multitask, successfully collaborate on projects with a range of business objectives. This person must exhibit the knowledge, leadership, and drive needed to not only challenge the status quo, but also define and execute the optimal path forward. What You'll Do Perform extensive data study on all field failures and correlation studies with upstream cell manufacturing process. Create test models to ensure proper detection and outlier rejection criteria for field rejects Identify trends from field return data and quantify reliability risks for diagnostics of key critical signals/metrics and potential deviation from cell/firmware specifications Analyze Field Reliability/Quality data for cell related failures and failure modes to predict expected failure rates, affected populations, verify effectiveness of the corrective actions at Tesla and at suppliers Build scalable and reliable pipelines to deploy, test and monitor performance metrics of models in a production environment Produce cogent and intelligible data visualizations, author technical presentations and summarize high-impact technical findings into strategic insights for engineering and leadership What You'll Bring Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or equivalent experience Experience with multiple data architecture paradigms (e.g. MySQL, Microsoft SQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Hadoop, Hbase, Spark) Knowledge of ETL orchestration tools like Airflow and data visualization platforms like Tableau, Power BIProficiency in Python for time series analysis and applied statistics (inference, anomaly detection etc.) Experience with model training frameworks and modern machine learning concepts, integration and workflows to introduce accurate models to a production environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate complex data solutions into business impact Strong follow-through and organizational discipline, able to track multiple projects and drive them to resolution Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $120,000 - $180,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
