Senior Quality Engineer -
Assembly Job Description:
The Senior Quality Engineer - Assembly provides advanced quality engineering support for pallet, housing, and final assemblies used in a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role focuses on soldered and mechanical assemblies built to IPC, military, and aerospace standards and requires hands‑on involvement in risk management, problem resolution, customer communication, and continuous improvement. The Senior Quality Engineer operates with a high degree of technical independence and helps establish and sustain robust quality practices across assembly operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assembly Quality Engineering. Support quality assurance activities for pallet, housing, and final assemblies used in semiconductor manufacturing operations. Develop, review, and maintain inspection criteria, workmanship standards, control plans, and PFMEAs for soldered and mechanical assemblies. Review assembly drawings, travelers, and work instructions for quality completeness and compliance. Provide in‑process quality support and support final acceptance of assembled products.
Job Duties includes:
Standards & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with applicable requirements including MIL‑PRF‑19500 / 38534 / 38535, MIL‑STD‑883 / 750 / 202, JEDEC standards, and IPC‑A‑600, IPC‑A‑610, and J‑STD‑001. Support First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements. Participate in customer, internal, and regulatory audits related to assembly quality.
Problem Solving & Corrective Action:
Lead and support MRB activities, nonconformance investigations, and corrective actions using structured problem‑solving methodologies (8D/CAPA). Prepare and present clear, data‑driven 8D reports to global customers, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and effectiveness verification.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement:
Serve as a practitioner and subject‑matter resource in PFMEA and control plan development and use. Promote institutional learning and risk‑based thinking to improve process robustness and prevent recurrence of quality issues.
Collaboration & Supplier Engagement:
Partner with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline. 5+ years of quality engineering experience supporting mechanical and/or soldered assemblies in a regulated manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of IPC workmanship standards and military/aerospace quality requirements. Demonstrated experience with PFMEA, control plans, MRB, and corrective action methods. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer‑facing presentations. Due to ITAR regulations, only candidates who are U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, or individuals granted asylum or refugee status) will be considered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in semiconductor manufacturing or other high‑reliability electronics environments. Experience supporting AS9100‑certified operations or military/aerospace customers. Familiarity with statistical analysis and data‑driven quality tools. The Salary Range for this position is $69,000 - $113,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates' experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities. This position is eligible to receive restricted stock unit (RSU) awards and cash bonuses, solely at MACOM's discretion, subject to individual and company performance.
