Role Number:
200668468-3543 Are you a deeply curious technologist driven by hard problems and meaningful impact? Apple's Battery Module Reliability Group is seeking an exceptional engineer to help shape the dependability of the very products millions of people rely on every day. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of battery technology — partnering with world-class design teams to anticipate failure before it happens, push the boundaries of stress testing methodology, and champion the enduring quality our customers expect from Apple. If you thrive at the intersection of rigorous science and real-world product impact, we want to hear from you. Description As a Battery Reliability Engineer, you will be a critical voice in the product development lifecycle — identifying high-risk failure modes early and driving design teams toward robust, reliable solutions before they reach battery production. You will pioneer new stress conditions grounded in physics-of-failure principles and authentic use-case modeling, then translate those insights into the equipment infrastructure and specifications needed to validate product reliability at scale. Responsibilities Identify potential failure modes and prevention opportunities from design and process control standpoints through in depth FMEA Engage directly with battery suppliers to ensure that reliability testings are executed with high standards Working with the cross functional team to deliver sharp failure analysis, constructing clear design guidance, and connecting root cause findings to actionable engineering direction Build trusted relationships across disciplines, communicate with precision, and operate with both scientific rigor and product intuition Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field) with 3+ years of relevant industry experience Strong foundational knowledge of the physics governing material and device behavior — spanning mechanical, electrical, and chemical domains Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience with a track record of systematically uncovering failure root causes Proficiency in statistical data analysis, paired with the ability to distill complex findings into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional audiences Proven ability to synthesize data from multiple sources to identify root cause and champion corrective action Ability to travel internationally without restriction (up to 10%) Preferred Qualifications M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline 5+ years of engineering experience in reliability, failure analysis, or related fields Working knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion battery technology Experience with statistical analysis platforms such as JMP or Weibull++ Hands-on experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability prediction modeling Proficiency with failure analysis and materials characterization techniques — including microscopy and spectroscopy — and the ability to leverage these tools to establish definitive root cause conclusions A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with a strong record of effective cross-functional partnership Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $258,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation.
