US- Reliability Engineer (Entry) Mechanical Engineer Whitestown, Indiana Contract Mar 23, 2026 A global life sciences organization is hiring an entry-level Reliability Engineer for a long-term contract role in Whitestown, Indiana. This position focuses primarily on hands-on mechanical troubleshooting, servicing, and maintenance of complex automated production systems. The engineer will support production and installation activities by diagnosing and repairing mechanical components, executing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable equipment performance in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform hands-on mechanical servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, couplings, shafts, motors, belts/chains, actuators, and material handling systems Diagnose mechanical root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to reduce repeat issues Execute and refine preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, alignment, tensioning, inspection, and mechanical adjustments; update PM procedures as needed Support installation, alignment, and mechanical commissioning of new or modified automation equipment, including rigging and mechanical assembly Perform basic electrical and control checks (e.g., motor starters, basic wiring) and escalate complex PLC or programming issues to controls specialists Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and CAD-generated documentation Safely use hand tools and diagnostic equipment including torque wrenches, dial indicators, laser alignment tools, vibration meters, infrared thermography tools, and hoists Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment history in the CMMS; recommend spare parts and mechanical upgrades Collaborate with production, engineering, and vendor technicians to document and communicate mechanical issues and solutions Follow all site safety procedures including LOTO, PPE, confined space, and fall protection requirements
Required Qualifications:
Relevant hands-on mechanical or maintenance experience in a manufacturing or automation environment; degree not required, equivalent technical training, certifications, military experience, or demonstrated on-the-job experience accepted 0-3 years of experience in industrial maintenance or mechanical troubleshooting (internships or co-ops applicable) Strong mechanical aptitude including bearing replacement, gearbox inspection, belt/chain tensioning, motor coupling and alignment, and basic hydraulic/pneumatic servicing Experience using diagnostic and test equipment such as multimeters (for basic checks), torque tools, alignment tools, and standard hand tools Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and reporting Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams Ability to work shifts, overtime, and participate in an on-call rotation as required Ability to meet physical demands including climbing ladders, working at heights and in tight spaces, lifting up to 60 lbs regularly (and heavier loads with assistance or hoisting equipment), and standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with SolidWorks CAD software for viewing or modifying basic assembly and installation drawings Exposure to basic PLC/HMI concepts and controls troubleshooting Experience with condition monitoring tools such as vibration analysis and thermography, and mechanical reliability methods including FMEA and RCM Forklift, aerial lift, or rigging certification OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training
