Equipment Reliability Engineer (Steel Wheel Manufacturing) Amsted Manufacturing USA Kansas City, KS Job Details $44.16 - $75.71 an hour 7 hours ago Qualifications Microsoft Word Manufacturing plant facilities maintenance experience Technical engineering Microsoft Excel SAP Manufacturing facility Manufacturing Full Job Description A day in this role Start the morning reviewing your CMMS dashboard and the up-to-date backlog, then align the day's maintenance plan with production goals. You'll coordinate daily and weekend/down-day work, brief Multi-crafts, Electricians, and Mechanics, and verify that yesterday's fixes are performing as intended. As issues arise, you'll drive root-cause analysis, engage vendors or contractors, requisition needed spares, and keep leadership informed. By day's end, you've advanced proactive maintenance plans aligned with TPM, updated PMs where data shows gaps, and captured lessons learned to lift plant reliability—supporting the manufacture of steel freight car and locomotive wheels. What you will own Plan and coordinate proactive maintenance to maximize uptime and confirm repair effectiveness. Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to schedule, track, and optimize work. Form and lead teams that elevate plant maintenance capabilities. Be accountable for planning and scheduling department maintenance, repair, and installation of production machinery and equipment. Schedule daily and weekend/down-day maintenance tasks and maintain an accurate, current work log. Provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to Multi-crafts, Electricians, and Mechanics. Partner closely with plant management and supervision, maintenance personnel, vendors, engineers, purchasing, technical services, and contractors. Core accountabilities Develop, implement, and sustain proactive maintenance practices aligned with TPM. Leverage the CMMS to plan, prioritize, and measure effectiveness. Plan, schedule, and coordinate department manpower for maintenance and repairs to reduce downtime, control cost, and support production efficiency. Create and maintain a maintenance plan consistent with TPM philosophy. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement solutions that prevent repeat events. Collaborate with vendors and contractors to deliver maintenance projects. Continuously assess PM effectiveness and update PMs as needed. Determine spare parts requirements and requisition needed components. Perform other duties as required. Skills and experience Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a combination of education and relevant experience. 3-5 years in maintenance management/supervision; minimum 2 years in manufacturing; prior supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access; SAP and SQL (or equivalents); familiarity with CAD programs. Availability to work required schedules, cross-train as needed, and demonstrate strong technical proficiency in the assigned area. How success is measured Effectiveness is demonstrated through timely, on-budget project completion that meets or exceeds operational requirements—ensuring proper function, ease of operation, and minimized maintenance cost. This work requires experience with equipment and facilities used to produce steel freight car and locomotive wheels; knowledge spanning design, mechanical, and electrical engineering; and the ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver results.
