The candidate will ideally work from Frederick, MD, but other areas within the US can be considered for the right candidate. Discover Impactful Work:
The Validation Applications Specialist (VAS) will be part of the HID Global Support Team, integrated within the Professional Services (HPS) organization. This role is responsible for supporting validation services, workflow implementation, and technical project execution across Thermo Fisher Scientific HID's global portfolio of forensic laboratory products. The objective of this position is to contribute to the success of the HPS business by executing validation activities, maintaining laboratory readiness, and supporting troubleshooting efforts for HID workflow solutions. This position is based in North America and requires global travel to support customer laboratories. Travel may involve extended stays at project sites (typically 2-3 weeks, occasionally longer). The role also includes responsibility for maintaining the North America HID laboratory in Frederick, Maryland, to support global validation efforts. A Day in the
Life:
Execute hands-on ("wet work") validation activities at customer laboratories globally, ensuring workflows are performed accurately and in alignment with regulatory and quality standards. Collaborate with Technical Project Managers (TPMs) to deliver validation services, including workflow execution, data analysis, and support of validation documentation. Maintain the North America HID laboratory (Frederick, MD), including instrument upkeep, supply management, and preparation of standardized validation sample sets. Support troubleshooting and resolution of workflow-related issues, particularly those impacting active HPS projects, to minimize delays and ensure customer satisfaction. Maintain high communication with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and the successful execution of validation projects. Identify opportunities to improve validation efficiency, laboratory operations, and overall project execution without compromising quality. Provide technical support to cross-functional teams, including Field Applications Specialists (FAS), commercial teams, and service personnel. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of HID validation and professional services activities. Work closely with global HID teams, including TPMs, commercial, FAS, service, product management, and marketing. Execute validation activities that directly support successful project delivery and customer outcomes. Maintain laboratory readiness and ensure the availability of critical resources for global validation projects. Identify risks and proactively support the resolution of technical challenges impacting customer projects. Continuously develop expertise in HID technologies, workflows, and validation methodologies. Success:
Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience (or 3 years with an advanced degree) in forensic DNA workflows or a related technical role, including hands-on laboratory experience. Demonstrated experience with forensic DNA instrumentation, chemistries, and analysis software. Strong understanding of validation processes in regulated environments; familiarity with standards such as SWGDAM or
ISO 17025
is preferred. Experience supporting validation, implementation, or troubleshooting in customer-facing or project-based environments. Ability to interpret experimental data and apply problem-solving skills in laboratory and field settings. Willingness and ability to travel globally up to ~70%. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with liquid handling automation platforms preferred. Proximity to or ability to regularly support on-site work in Frederick, Maryland, preferred. Experience supporting customer-facing laboratory or validation projects preferred.

Compensation and Benefits The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $91,700.00-$122,250.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
