Job Title:
Quality Engineer Job Description The Quality Engineer plays a key role in driving continuous improvement and ensuring a robust, high-quality assembly process within a plant environment. This position focuses on coordinating quality objectives across departments, analyzing process data, applying advanced quality tools, and working hands-on with engine assembly to prevent defects and enhance overall product quality. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to work independently while providing guidance to others. Responsibilities Coordinate quality objectives with other departments to align goals and ensure consistent quality standards across the organization. Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing error-proofing and mistake-proofing strategies in the assembly process. Keep leadership informed of progress, key developments, and potential or pending quality issues in a clear and timely manner. Drive quality issues to closure through established quality feedback loops, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions. Analyze assembly process data to identify trends, emerging concerns, and opportunities for improvement before they impact product quality. Work with advanced quality tools, such as PFMEAs, to ensure a robust and capable assembly process. Analyze SPC data and collaborate with manufacturing engineering to implement process improvements that enhance quality and reduce variation. Apply knowledge of GD&T and CMM operations to verify product conformance and support dimensional analysis. Facilitate and support others in the execution of quality improvement activities, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Work hands-on in a plant environment with engine assembly operations to monitor, evaluate, and improve quality performance. Work independently within established guidelines and policies to solve moderately complex quality problems. Provide guidance and support to new team members and, when required, lead quality-related projects or processes. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience in quality engineering or a closely related field. Working knowledge and expanded professional experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing or assembly environment. Strong understanding of key business drivers and how quality performance impacts operational and organizational goals. Proven ability to work independently within guidelines and policies to solve problems of moderate complexity. Experience analyzing assembly process data to identify trends and potential quality concerns. Hands-on experience with advanced quality tools such as PFMEA to support process design and improvement. Ability to analyze SPC data and collaborate with manufacturing engineering to make data-driven process improvements. Knowledge of GD&T and experience with CMM operations to support measurement and verification activities. Practical experience in quality engineering activities such as PPAP and audits. Ability to facilitate and support quality improvement initiatives across teams. Capability to provide guidance to new team members and contribute to leading projects or processes as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Product knowledge of transmissions, axles, and engines. Experience working in a manufacturing environment, particularly in engine or powertrain assembly. Experience with SPC, MSA, and PFMEA methodologies. Familiarity with quality engineering practices including PPAP and audit processes. Strong communication skills to effectively keep stakeholders informed of progress and issues. Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and other departments to achieve quality objectives. Work Environment This role is based in a plant environment with a strong focus on hands-on work in engine assembly operations. The Quality Engineerregularly interacts with manufacturing engineering, production teams, and other departments to address quality issues and implement improvements. The position involves working with advanced quality tools, statistical process control data, and measurement technologies such as CMM equipment. The environment is fast-paced and process-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety, continuous improvement, and collaboration across functions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Livonia, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
