Job Description

As a MRB Quality Engineer for powertrain Semi, you will be the critical link between Manufacturing, Design, and Supplier Quality teams to ensure that materials, components, and assemblies meet Tesla's high standards. You will oversee the Material Review Board (MRB) process, drive data-informed root cause analysis, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve nonconformances efficiently for Tesla Semi Manufacturing. This role requires a technical, analytical, and process-focused engineer with strong communication skills and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment. Lead MRB Review Process & Cross-Functional Collaboration. Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to review and disposition nonconforming materials. Ensure timely, data-driven decisions and communicate findings across departments Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Using 5M/5Why/8D. Implement structured problem-solving methods to identify true causes of defects and define preventive actions Manage Design Deviations & Analyze Part Specifications. Evaluate and authorize design deviations or concessions in partnership with engineering teams. Review technical drawings/specifications to confirm parts meet functional and safety requirements Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineering to address quality concerns and improve supplier performance. Conduct supplier audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives Oversee chargeback processes for defective materials, partnering with finance/legal to recoup costs. Document supplier non-conformances and enforce contract requirements Leverage SQL and programming skills to gather, aggregate, and interpret data on material rejection rates. Identify recurring patterns and create predictive models to reduce future defects Develop dashboards and reports to illustrate defect trends, root causes, and cost implications Maintain robust documentation systems (deviations, inspection records, audits) for full product lifecycle traceability Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, MRB, or related roles in high-volume manufacturing environments Proven track record in root cause analysis (5M, 5Why, 8D) and corrective action processes Strong data analysis proficiency, including SQL and basic coding for data mining, aggregation, and visualization Familiarity with statistical analysis methods, process capability studies, and quality control tools Experience establishing and managing documentation systems for nonconformances, deviations, and quality audits Comfortable working with engineering drawings and technical specifications, with attention to detail and thorough record-keeping Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting quality metrics, presenting data insights, and aligning cross-functional teams Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and juggling multiple priorities effectively
