Manage all quality assurance/control related activities for specific GTC customer hardware, including interaction with GTC associates in other functional areas, and customer and government inspectors. Paramount in these activities is the short and long-term resolution of internally and externally identified product nonconformances. The Quality Engineer establishes and maintains effective communication with their customers, including formal submission of GTC root cause investigation and countermeasure activities. The Quality Engineer monitors adherence to the existing GTC quality system, and along with the quality team, works to develop and implement enhancements. Support of projects and activities that ensure continuously improving value to our customers is also expected.
KEY RESULTS AREAS
Nonconforming material and rework activities are managed effectively in a timely manner, remaining cognizant of internal needs and customer timing expectations. RCCA activity results are compiled in a complete and understandable format, using 8D methodology, and communicated to the customer and/or government agencies as required. Proper flow-down of customer requirements into GTC and supplier/subcontractor processes is assured through accurate completion of quality plan reports for new and altered hardware. Inclusion of customer and GTC quality requirements into GTC production process routings is assured through complete review and approval of new and altered routings.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review Nonconforming Material Reports and interface with production supervisors and engineers to identify valid root causes and determine and implement effective corrective actions. Collect data and analyze all statistical data available to determine needed process improvements. Develop, analyze and report statistical quality performance information to assure communication is adequate for elevating awareness to highest level possible. Attend pre-manufacturing meetings, searching for ways of preventing discrepancies and waste based upon historical knowledge. Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Project Management and Business Development to review contractual requirements and quality plans to prevent errors. Investigate all customer Corrective Action Requests, Returned Material Authorizations and customer complaints in a timely manner to identify process failures and to establish effective Corrective Actions to prevent any re-occurrence. Develop new approaches to solve problems and prevent errors as identified during quality assurance activities. Participate in internal, customer and regulatory audits as needed. Assume other responsibilities as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE
Must be a US citizen. High school diploma required. Bachelor's or associate degree in a mechanical, industrial or quality related field preferred but may substitute a minimum of 5 years of defense manufacturing quality experience for the degree. Training in Lean Enterprise tools. Training/certification in
ISO 9001, AS9100, TS
16949 or related international standard(s). Computer skills, related software, and knowledge of quality processes required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Minimum 5 years' experience in quality related work in a government/aerospace manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Strong understanding of GD&T principles. Proven participation and success in the area of Lean, Six-Sigma and Continuous Improvement. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in effectively providing appropriate feedback to engineering, source inspectors, management and customers. Proven problem-solving skills, and ability to establish an effective course of action. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress. Proven ability to facilitate team activities, with an understanding of group dynamics.
