Quality Engineer Job Description This hands-on Quality Engineer role focuses on supporting new product launches and process validation activities, with a strong emphasis on inspection, measurement, and capability analysis. You will work closely with operations and production teams on the manufacturing floor to ensure products consistently meet customer and internal quality standards, particularly during early-stage validation and new product introductions. Responsibilities Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) to support early-stage product validation and confirm initial parts meet all specified requirements. Conduct capability studies and analyze process performance to ensure manufacturing processes produce consistent and reliable results. Use a variety of measurement tools, including micrometers, pin gages, calipers, and CMM/Faro arm equipment, to verify part dimensions and features. Support PPAP and NFAI documentation and submissions for new product introductions, ensuring all required quality documentation is complete and accurate. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to validate part compliance with dimensional and geometric requirements. Work primarily on the manufacturing floor, collaborating closely with operations and production teams to address quality issues and improve processes. Evaluate and implement appropriate measurement techniques for different part geometries to ensure accurate and repeatable inspection results. Support process development and part validation activities, including establishing and confirming process capability during the initial months of production. Validate manufacturing processes for simple and moderately complex components, such as flat plates with hole patterns, ensuring features remain within required tolerances and locations. Contribute to design changes aligned with new standards and higher-efficiency products by providing quality and validation input. Assist with gage and fixture-related activities, including fixture design and gage calibration support, to enable effective and efficient inspection. Participate in quality system and validation work, providing feedback and recommendations to enhance overall product and process quality. Collaborate on new product introduction efforts, providing high-visibility support for quality planning, measurement strategies, and validation milestones. Essential Skills At least 2+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering with a strong quality focus. Experience in process development and part validation, including establishing process capability. Hands-on experience with inspection tools and measurement techniques, such as micrometers, pin gages, calipers, and related equipment. Proficiency in performing First Article Inspections (FAI) and supporting early-stage product validation activities. Experience conducting capability studies and analyzing process performance data. Experience with PPAP, FAI, and capability studies for new product introductions. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to assess and verify part compliance. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing measurements and documenting results. Ability to work effectively on the manufacturing floor and collaborate with operations and production teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience programming or running a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Experience using or familiarity with Faro arm measurement systems. Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis, including Gage R&R. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (preferred). Exposure to project management or participation in new product launch activities. Experience with fixture design to support inspection and measurement processes. Experience with gage calibration practices and standards. Background in quality engineering or industrial engineering within a manufacturing environment. Interest in long-term career growth and the potential to transition from contract to a full-time role. Work Environment This role is highly hands-on, with approximately 90% of the time spent on the manufacturing floor performing measurements and First Article Inspections. You will work in a production environment across multiple facilities, collaborating directly with operations and production teams to validate processes and support new product introductions. The position offers high visibility on new product introduction projects and strong exposure to quality systems and validation work. You will work with a variety of measurement technologies and equipment, including micrometers, pin gages, calipers, CMMs, and Faro arms, as well as fixtures and gages that support accurate inspection. The organization provides a stable environment with a long history of steady growth and multiple facilities, offering opportunities for long-term development and potential contract-to-hire transitions.
