What to Expect Tesla is looking for a highly motivated engineer, experienced with Industrial Engineering methodologies, to drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Cell Manufacturing team at Gigafactory Texas. As an Industrial Engineer, you will support a world-class manufacturing program from the ground up. You will initiate and energize the corrective action and continuous improvement culture at Gigafactory Texas to the highest levels of performance in safety, quality, cost, and growth. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish some of the most ambitious projects being attempted in any industry today. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic and computation to develop improvement and operational strategies. A successful applicant will have the ability to quantify ambiguous problems to drive data-based decisions. Working from within the Quality Operations team, this role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Systems teams. What You'll Do
Perform Takt time assessments, line balancing acts, value-stream mapping and cause and effect diagrams to identify areas for improvement
Apply Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean, value analysis, and value engineering tools to implement continuous improvement practices
Implement industrial engineering and lean manufacturing practices to deliver the project savings, quality, safety, and productivity improvements required by leadership
Work with cross-functional teams including process engineering, equipment engineering and maintenance teams to support on-going projects
Develop and deliver technical training to all production personnel (8D, Kaizen, DMAIC, lean principles)
Design and optimize manufacturing layout incorporating material flow and headcount allocation
Work with manufacturing engineers to design and iterate on manufacturing processes
Perform Basic MOST analysis of process to project cycle times
Calculate inline and interline buffers to optimize production
Work with factory simulation/modeling teams to validate line capacities, develop flow paths and aisle sizing for products, raw materials, and work in progress What You'll Bring
Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
2+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering experience
2+ years leading cross-functional teams in a production environment
Certified Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt
Knowledge of 5S, lean manufacturing and 6-Sigma principles
Proven track record of leading successful continuous improvement projects
Experience mentoring/training engineers. technicians, and shop floor personnel in continuous improvement fundamentals
Knowledge in OEE, capacity planning, cycle time analysis (Basic MOST) and line balancing
Experience doing the detailed analysis necessary to make data driven decisions on factory layout design, production line design or warehouse design Compensation and Benefits
