Job Description

Job ID:
727483BR Date posted: May. 12, 2026
Description:
The HWIL Software Integration Engineer (E4) provides senior level technical leadership for the development, integration, and verification of real time, closed loop Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) simulations that combine missile hardware components with high performance software models. With 5+years of relevant experience, the incumbent operates with technical authority, defines integration strategy, and influences program decisions while representing LockheedMartin to senior government and industry stakeholders. Core Responsibilities
  • Software Architecture & Strategy
  • Define and evolve the software architecture for HWIL test beds, establishing standards for real time code, low latency data pathways, and deterministic execution.
  • Lead the development and integration of missile flight software, guidance algorithms, and sensor models into closed loop simulation environments (including 6 DOF missile dynamics).
  • Real Time Integration & Timing
  • Ensure end to end latency and timing budgets are met for hardware to software interfaces, employing techniques such as time domain analysis, jitter budgeting, and priority based scheduling.
  • Implement and validate synchronization mechanisms between missile hardware (actuators, sensors, RF targets) and simulation models running on real time operating systems (RTOS) and
FPGA/HPC
platforms.
  • Program Leadership
  • Serve as the lead HWIL software engineer, coordinating cross functional teams (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, and Integration).
  • Integration & Verification
  • Direct software hardware integration activities, overseeing debugging of interface protocols, timing mismatches, and data integrity issues.
  • Author and approve comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) plans; ensure traceability to requirements and produce formal validation reports.
  • Hardware Interaction & Test Equipment
  • Apply hands on hardware skills (RF testing, cable harness verification, target generation) to support software integration and troubleshoot hardware related anomalies.
  • Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, RF signal generators, and high speed data acquisition systems.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables (code, interface specifications, test procedures) to ensure adherence to best practices and LockheedMartin standards.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the technical liaison with government customers for real time simulation support, requirement clarification, and issue resolution.
Basic Qualifications:
    Experience:
5+years in software development, real time integration, and HWIL environments; proven experience integrating missile hardware with real time simulations
      Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field (Master's preferred)
        Clearance:
Active Secret clearance (interim required at start)
          Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in C/C++ and real time operating systems (e.g., RedHawk, VxWorks, RTLinux); strong understanding of low latency communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, MIL
          STD 1553, CAN
          )
          • Working knowledge of RF testing, target generation equipment, and missile hardware interfaces
          • Strong hands-on skills with lab equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer).
          Leadership & Communication:
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, influence senior stakeholders, and produce clear technical documentation and presentations
          Desired Skills:
          • Demonstrated success leading HWIL software integration for missile or aerospace programs, including latency budgeting and deterministic timing verification
          • Experience with model based development environments and code generation for real time execution
          • Experience with flight software integration, real time operating systems, and high performance computing applied to HWIL
          • Knowledge of industry standards and LockheedMartin best practices for HWIL real-time simulation design and implementation
          • Experience coordinating with government customers for test support
