Water Resources EngineerFull-Time | San Francisco Bay Area, CA |
The OpportunityWe are seeking a technically skilled professional to join a growing practice focused on groundwater science, water supply strategy, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to a practice group lead, this individual will contribute across the full project lifecycle-from scoping and analysis through design, implementation, and final deliverables. Engagements span aquifer characterization, sustainable yield assessments, regional supply planning, reuse feasibility, well design, water rights analysis, and expert support for legal proceedings.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild, calibrate, and apply hydrogeologic conceptual frameworks, water balance analyses, and numerical simulation tools to support client objectivesAuthor technical documents such as sustainability assessments, regional supply strategies, integrated resource plans, water transfer analyses, and conservation program evaluationsTranslate complex technical findings into clear, well-organized written reports and presentations for non-technical stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and decision-makersAssist senior practitioners and project leads with scope management, scheduling, budget tracking, and progress reportingContribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and client relationship support as needed Ideal Candidate ProfileEducationBachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree strongly preferred Experience & Technical SkillsAt least two years of relevant professional experience; five or more years preferred, working in groundwater modeling, water supply consulting, or a comparable technical roleDemonstrated proficiency with subsurface flow and transport simulation platforms (e.g., finite-difference or integrated hydrologic tools commonly used in western-state water management)Solid grounding in water supply planning, data management, geospatial analysis, and technical report preparationFamiliarity with state-level groundwater sustainability regulations and municipal supply planning requirements in California is highly valuedWorking knowledge of scripting and data analysis tools (Python or R), mapping/GIS platforms, and relational databases is a plusExperience with land subsidence monitoring, measurement, and modeling is an advantageHealth and safety training for field site work is preferred but can be obtained post-hire Personal AttributesExcellent communicator-comfortable presenting to clients, writing for diverse audiences, and collaborating across disciplinesSelf-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple engagementsIntellectually curious with a genuine interest in continuous learning and professional growthPositive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to take initiativeValid driver's license required Working ConditionsDynamic consulting environment with multiple concurrent projects and time-sensitive deliverablesPeriodic field work requiring physical activity, including lifting equipment to 25 lbs and extended standing or walkingOccasional travel (up to 25%) for client meetings, site assessments, and field investigations; some overnight stays may be requiredAbility to obtain medical clearance for work at regulated environmental sitesStandard work schedule with periodic extended days (up to 10 hours) during peak project periods Compensation & BenefitsThis firm provides a compelling total rewards package that reflects its employee-ownership model.
