Job Description
Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Technical & Engineering- Lead the mechanical design and specification of water and wastewater systems, including: o Pumping systemso Treatment processeso Pipework and valve networkso Filtration and disinfection systemso Mechanical plant and ancillary equipment
- Produce and review high spec technical documentation, including: o Design calculationso Technical specificationso Schematics and layoutso Equipment schedules
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.
WRAS, BS/EN
standards, local water authority requirements).- Carry out technical assurance and independent design reviews. Project Delivery
- Support projects from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulators to resolve technical challenges.
- Review contractor submissions, method statements, and commissioning plans.
- Provide site support, inspections, and witness testing where required. Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a technical authority for water mechanical systems within the business.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and project teams.
- Contribute to technical strategy, best practice development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with civil, electrical, ICA, and process engineering disciplines.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Significant experience in water, wastewater, or utilities engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of hydraulics, pumping systems, treatment processes, and mechanical plant.
- Proven ability to deliver high spec, safety critical, or regulated projects.
- Excellent technical writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Chartered or working toward CEng status (IMechE or equivalent).
- Experience with major frameworks, utilities providers, or mission critical facilities.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability principles.
- Familiarity with digital design tools (e.
