Overview Vikus Water is a focused utility engineering firm dedicated to water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and alternative stormwater systems serving The Villages® community—the fastest-growing City in the United States. With this position, you'll have an incredible opportunity to witness the entire lifecycle of projects, from initial problem identification, scoping, planning, design, construction, and final delivery; contributing to initiatives that genuinely impact residents' lives. This position is designed to develop a well-rounded engineer through direct involvement in planning, design, construction, and utility operations. The Engineer will work under the guidance of experienced engineers while contributing to real projects that directly impact system performance, regulatory compliance, and capital delivery. Engineers in this role receive structured mentorship, hands-on training, and early exposure to design, project execution, and utility operations. This role is structured as a developmental engineering position with defined technical deliverables and progressive responsibility across design, project delivery, and utility operations: Support system planning, modeling, and design. Prepare technical memoranda and design documents under supervision. Participate in capital project delivery from scope and design then bid through construction. Coordinate with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and internal team. Conduct field evaluations of water, wastewater, and irrigation facilities. Observe plant and collection/distribution system operations. Assist with asset condition assessments, wet weather response evaluations, and operational troubleshooting. MyMiddleton.com Responsibilities Engineering & Design Assist in the planning and design of: Water and wastewater treatment facilities, including expansions and rehabilitation Pumping stations and utility infrastructure Water transmission and distribution systems Wastewater collection and conveyance systems Support water and wastewater master planning and system evaluations Perform engineering calculations, including hydraulics and fluid dynamics Assist in preparation of plans, technical specifications, and engineering reports Contribute to maintaining high-quality plan sets and documentation Project & Construction Support Support capital improvement projects from planning through construction Review shop drawings and contractor submittals for consistency with project requirements Assist in construction observation, documentation, and progress reporting Support project tracking, including schedules, budgets, and deliverables Participate in maintaining quality control and checking work, including work prepared by team members Utility & Operations Support Assist in evaluation of existing water and wastewater systems, including transmission and collection infrastructure Support permitting efforts, data collection, and regulatory coordination Participate in engineering investigations and feasibility studies Assist with long-term utility planning and capital improvement programs Collaboration & Professional Development Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery Participate in client interactions and project discussions as appropriate Gain exposure to: Plan production Project financials Utility operations and performance metrics Participate in formal training and on-the-job mentorship Field Work Conduct site visits and field observations at construction and operational sites Assist with inspections, data collection, and system assessments Observe construction procedures and quality control testing Qualifications B.S. or M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering 0-5 years of relevant experience in water/wastewater or utility engineering Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet deadlines Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word Familiarity with engineering/design tools is preferred: AutoCAD WaterCAD or similar modeling software GIS or MicroStation Hydrologic/Hydraulic modeling tools Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to perform field work in outdoor Florida conditions Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites Benefits Competitive salary Straight time overtime pay Bi-annual bonus eligibility after 6 months Comprehensive medical coverage and life insurance (employee at no cost) Dental, vision, and supplemental insurance options 401(k) with employer match up to 4% (salary + bonus) Generous paid time off and holidays PE-Related Fees (classes, study materials and exam) paid by company Relocation assistance (if applicable) Access to highly ranked charter schools within The Villages® community for children
