Grosser Consulting is seeking a Wastewater Engineer to lead and support planning, design, permitting, and construction of municipal and private sewage treatment plants (STPs) , pump stations , force mains , and gravity sewer systems throughout Suffolk County, NY. The ideal candidate brings hands-on familiarity with Suffolk County regulations and approvals, and is comfortable coordinating across agencies, utilities, and multidisciplinary design teams. Key Responsibilities Planning & Design Develop basis-of-design reports, process flow diagrams, hydraulic profiles, and preliminary engineering reports for STPs (conventional, SBR, MBR, advanced nutrient removal), pump stations, and collection systems. Perform hydraulic modeling and capacity analyses for gravity sewers and force mains; size pumps, wet wells, odor control systems, and appurtenances. Prepare detailed drawings and specifications (civil, process, mechanical, electrical, I&C) and support BIM/CAD workflows. Permitting & Regulatory Coordination Prepare, submit, and track permit applications and approvals with Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) , NYSDEC (SPDES) , and local towns/villages; coordinate with SCWA and utility stakeholders. Develop compliance strategies for effluent limits, reuse, biosolids handling, and facility operations; support SEQRA documentation and public engagement as needed. Construction & Field Work Provide construction-phase services: submittal reviews, RFI responses, site inspections, start-up/commissioning support, and punch lists. Lead/perform condition assessments, CCTV reviews, flow monitoring, infiltration/inflow (I/I) studies, and field investigations. Project Delivery & Management Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules; track deliverables; support proposal writing and client presentations. Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with environmental, civil, structural, and geotechnical teams to deliver integrated solutions. Required Qualifications B.S. in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering 10+ years of relevant wastewater/collection system design experience Working knowledge of Suffolk County approvals and processes (e.g., SCDHS STP/pump station review, subdivision/realty applications, grease/oil control, onsite systems), and familiarity with
NYSDEC SPDES
permitting. Proficiency with hydraulic modeling and design tools (e.g., WaterCAD/SewerCAD/InfoWorks ICM), and standard CAD platforms (AutoCAD/Civil 3D). Strong technical writing skills; ability to produce clear reports, permit packages, and specifications. Valid driver's license and ability to conduct field work across Long Island. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing advanced treatment (nutrient removal), odor control, and SCADA/PLC
instrumentation for pump stations and plants. Familiarity with I/I reduction programs , flow metering, trenchless rehabilitation methods, and condition assessment protocols. NY Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1218 months. Experience with public agency work (e.g., towns/villages within Suffolk County, SCWA, SCDHS) and private development projects. Working knowledge of seismic/structural coordination for tanks and process equipment; ability to interface with electrical and controls engineers. Salary Range:
