Job Summary To Apply for this Job Click Here Senior Floodplain & Dam Engineering Lead Our client is seeking a Senior Floodplain & Dam Engineering Lead to join its growing Water Resources team in the greater Washington, DC / Northern Virginia region. This individual will serve as a lead technical resource supporting floodplain and dam-related projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling assignments involving FEMA and local floodplains, floodplain permitting, dam safety evaluations, dam breach analyses, and infrastructure improvements within regulated floodplain environments. Projects will include work associated with state-regulated dams in Virginia and Maryland. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer looking to take on leadership responsibilities, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continued growth of a highly collaborative water resources practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead development and quality control of HEC-RAS hydraulic models Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using GIS, survey, and as-built data Prepare floodplain studies, CLOMR/LOMR packages, and permitting documentation Conduct dam breach inundation studies, hazard assessments, and failure analyses Support floodplain mapping and emergency action planning efforts Assist with design of floodplain crossings and dam rehabilitation projects Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permit approvals Conduct field inspections and site visits as needed Prepare technical reports and engineering documentation Mentor junior engineers and support internal technical development Manage multiple projects, schedules, and client deliverables
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline Professional Engineer (PE) license 5+ years of experience with HEC-RAS modeling and water resources engineering Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities Experience with floodplain permitting and hydraulic modeling Proficiency with GIS platforms such as ArcMap or similar software Strong communication, organizational, and quality control skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Experience with
HEC-RAS 2D
modeling Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software
