Job Description
POSITION
English Language Learner (ELL) Service AssistantEMPLOYMENT PERIOD
2026-2027 School Year Hours 29.5 Hours per weekSALARY:
As Set by the Board of School TrusteesQUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High School Diploma or GED with para-pro certification.Preferred:
Experrience working directly with ELL students. Associate/Bachelor's Degree, Professional Educator's License Summary Under the supervision of an ELL Teacher of Record (TOR) or the classroom teacher (Teacher of Service), this person will plan and deliver daily practice and review sessions for individuals and small groups in push-in and pull-out settings. Content for these activities will be app/ computer based or hard copy and will include reviews of vocabulary, reading, grammar and other English language components of classroom content. Reliable transportation is needed as duties will require daily visits to multiple schools. Instructional Skills under supervision of the ELL TOR and classroom teacher: a. Implements daily ELD sessions to build listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. b. Communicates with teacher to access and utilize the approved resources and curriculum. c. Develops clear requirements and expectations and communicates these to students. d. Teaches student to utilize Google Translate and translation resources on iPad and MacBook Air e. Utilizes Google Translate or other bilingual communication capacity to communicate with student and family. f. Makes productive use of instructional time having teaching materials readily available. g. Explains content effectively; puts ideas across logically and in an orderly way. h. Communicates with home regarding practice materials and progress. i. Maintains complete, accurate, and legible records. j. Maintains appropriate confidentiality. Student Management Skills a. Supervises students as assigned. b. Provides reinforcement for positive behavior. c. Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior. d. Adheres to school discipline policies. e. Is consistent and fair in dealing with students. f. Promotes a warm, open, and accepting climate. Relationship with Supervisors a. Communicates with supervisors regarding student concerns. b. Takes timely and appropriate action with to regard to supervisor's requests and concerns. c. Uses tact and courtesy in relationships with staff/and or administrators. Knowledge and Skills The Applicant should be proficient or be willing to become proficient in: a. Google Translate (or other bilingual communication resource). b. Microsoft Word and Google docs (to prepare memos, letters, and reports). c. Excel and Google sheets (to create and maintain spreadsheets). d. iPad and MacBook translation capabilities. e. classroom instructional applications used by EL students.The Applicant should possess:
a. the ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups. b. a sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs. c. the ability to work with technology and adapt to changing work priorities. d. highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to negotiate effective working relationships and relate to students, parents, staff, administrators, and community. e. strong organizational skills with ability to effectively prioritize. f. the ability to work independently and within a team. g. the ability to communicate electronically. Possess highly developed technology skills.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before parents, staff, and students.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The ability add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral functions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ability to operate a personal computer and related software. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally, and in writing. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and YCS School Board policies.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
