Customer Service:
Status:
Non-Exempt Full-Time (40 hours) Monday-Friday 8AM - 4PM; •Schedule may vary based on business needs, which may include Saturdays, Sundays, evenings and holidays or on call.Position Summary:
This entry level position involves the installation, inspection, maintenance, and servicing of fire alarm systems and related equipment. Technician will be trained in fire alarm technology and safety protocols, with an eagerness to develop expertise in the field. This role offers hands-on training and growth opportunities for those interested in advancing their skills in fire alarm systems.Essential Job Functions:
•Installation and Commissioning:
Install, program, maintain, and repair fire alarm, intrusion, access control and surveillance systems in accordance with industry standards and codes. Assist with the installation and commissioning of the fire alarm systems, including panel setup, wiring and device installation. •Inspection & Testing:
Perform regular inspections and testing of fire alarm systems to ensure proper functionality and compliance with local regulations and standards (NFPA, UL, etc.). Conduct field service visits to troubleshoot and resolve issues with alarm systems.Routine Maintenance:
Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, adjusting, and verifying the functionality of detectors, panels, and associated devices.Troubleshooting & Repair:
Assist with diagnosing and repairing issues with fire alarm panels, devices and wiring. Escalate more complex issues to senior technician.Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all inspections, tests, repairs, and service calls. Complete service reports and submit them to management. Collaborate with clients to determine their specific needs and recommend appropriate alarm systems solutions. Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner. Provide training and basic guidance to clients on the operations and maintenance requirements of alarm systems. Strong customer service skills to effectively communicate with clients and address their needs.Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with industry codes and regulations, including NFPA, UL and local building codes. Follow safety protocols at all times.Equipment Handling:
Safely handle and transport fire alarm testing and installation tools and equipment.Required Skills and Competencies:
Ability to multitask, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, customer service, oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules. Stay up to date with industry advancements and changes in codes and regulations. Knowledge of fire alarm systems, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. Experience in field service or construction inspection related to electrical or fire safety systems. Proficiency in electrical work, including the ability to detect and troubleshoot wiring issues. Excellent problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues with alarm systems. Knowledge and experience with hand tools, various power tools and basic computer skills. Pulling of copper and coaxial cable in backbone, horizontal and riser environments. Feed cables through roof spaces and cavity walls, and position and terminate cables, wires and strappings. Termination of security alarm, fire alarm devices and cameras. Service of low voltage devices including security & fire alarm systems, intercom & CCTV. Service of low voltage wire solutions for Audio & Video (in-wall speakers and plasma TV). Service and power-up of electronic audio and video systems. Maintain vehicle inventory and vehicle maintenance. The use of test equipment to diagnose faults. Make connections to telephone lines for alarm monitoring. Maintain and adhere to operational procedures and complete appropriate documentation. Be responsible for assigned tools and test equipment.Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Technical training in electrical systems, fire alarm technology, or related field is a plus.Experience:
No prior experience required, but previous experience in electrical, security, or low-voltage systems is a plus.Certifications:
NICET Level 1 certification in Fire Alarm Systems (or the ability to obtain within a specified time) is preferred.Skills:
Basic Knowledge of electrical systems and fire alarm components Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics and technical manuals to effectively install and service alarm systems. Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills and customer service orientation. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist for prolonged periods. Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 80 lbs. Ability to pull and push up to 80 lbs. Comfortable working in elevated positions (ladders, lifts) and in confined spaces.Work Environment:
Field-based, with regular travel to client sites. Overtime may be required during emergencies or peak periods. Safety gear, tools, and company-provided equipment will be supplied.Company Work Requirements:
Must pass all background screenings as required by the company for the position. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean record and reliable transportation. A clean criminal background.
