Job Description
The Equipment Lead Mechanic performs technical work in the maintenance of county vehicles and equipment by performing difficult and complex mechanical repair work on diversified automotive and heavy equipment. This role supervises the activities of department personnel, vehicle and heavy equipment mechanics. The Equipment Lead Mechanic assigns, plans and supervises work for mechanics. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing garage policies and procedures, and overseeing proper training of staff; overseeing facility maintenance; maintaining inventories of parts and supplies; and maintaining records of maintenance performed.
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduation from technical or vocational school supplemented by course work in the repair of automotive equipment and components, and seven to ten years of experience in automotive repair work, preferably including supervisory experience; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. CDL is required within one (1) year of employment. North Carolina Vehicle Safety Inspection License is required within three (3) months of employment. Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment and machinery including automotive diagnostic equipment, hand tools, etc. Must be physically able to operate a variety of motor vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to climb, reach and/or stretch arms, legs or other parts of the body to grasp objects. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
