Quarry Reports to:Plant Manager Job Summary:
The Equipment Operator is primarily responsible for safely and environmentally proficiently operating surface heavy equipment. This is a temporary position running May through November 2026.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Does not have any direct reports.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows all company safety and environmental policies and all federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and
SDDANR, IADENR
).- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as skid steer, loader, excavator, motor grader, dozer, and haul truck.
- Perform and document a pre-shift inspection on equipment.
- Must be able to perform minor servicing and maintenance on mobile equipment as needed.
- Communicate with the shop/manager on equipment maintenance or repair needs.
- Responsible for the housekeeping of the equipment.
- Able to assist in plant repairs and clean-up.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
- All other duties assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- High attention to detail.
- Good work attendance.
- Display good communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions and instructions.
- Learn a variety of work skills associated with maintenance and repair operations.
- Safely and efficiently use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Read, understand, and follow safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically fit to perform the job functions, including sitting, standing, squat, bending, lifting, and walking for long durations.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
