Equipment Rental Field Mechanic

Job description: Overview Join our dynamic team as a Rental Equipment Field Technician and become a vital part of ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of heavy machinery and industrial equipment. In this energetic role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and servicing a wide range of rental equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm machinery. Your expertise will help keep our customers' projects on track by delivering prompt, professional service in the field. Responsibilities Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics on rental equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and heavy machinery using schematics and OEM manuals. Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, suspensions, HVAC components, and other mechanical parts to ensure optimal performance. Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, and other specialized tools to assemble, repair, or modify equipment components. Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues on industrial equipment by interpreting schematics and technical manuals. Test repaired equipment for safety and functionality before returning it to service or customer use. Maintain detailed service records, work logs, and asset protection documentation for each piece of equipment serviced or repaired. Assist with heavy lifting tasks and operate heavy equipment such as loaders or cranes safely in various job site conditions. Experience Proven experience working as a mechanic or service technician with heavy equipment or industrial machinery. Dealership experience is highly desirable, especially with Caterpillar or OEM-equivalent brands. Strong mechanical knowledge across diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brakes, alignment procedures, HVAC systems, and tire service. Familiarity with fabrication techniques including welding and soldering is a plus. Hands-on experience with excavator operation, crane maintenance, forklift servicing, tractor-trailer systems or farm machinery is preferred. Ability to read schematics accurately and interpret technical manuals for troubleshooting complex issues. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and team members. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly while maintaining safety standards in outdoor or construction environments.
